My research and teaching centers on the sociology and politics of comparative international education and peace/development studies with a focus in four areas: 1) higher education in conflict-affected contexts; 2) the global governance of education, conflict and peace; 3) the intersections of peace education and global citizenship education; and 4) critical approaches to education (de/postcolonial and postmodern thought, and critical pedagogy).
Specifically, my current funded research examines higher education for peace in the divided and conflict-affected contexts of China/Taiwan, Cyprus, Korea, and Somalia/Somaliland. Previous research explored conflict-sensitive teaching methods in Afghanistan, prefigurative pedagogy in Korea, higher education inside the United Nations, diffractive methodologies, posttruth, transrational perspectives, and decolonizing higher education. I was previously Tenure-Track Assistant Professor at Keimyung University (2018-20), and Postdoctoral Research Associate and Joint Director of Studies for Education at Queens' College and Fitzwilliam, University of Cambridge (2016-17).
